Volunteer profile:
Since 1992, SN volunteers have been going down to the Home on a weekly basis, carrying out various activities to keep the elderly patients mentally, physically and emotionally engaged. The activities carried are wide ranging, from handicraft sessions to games and singing. A monthly birthday celebration is organised to show the elderly that they are loved and remembered.
Besides in-house activities, we also organise ad-hoc field trips to various places of interest and the interaction between the elderly and the group is mutually enriching. Festival celebrations involving performances are also organised to bring cheers to the elderly. Through such activities, we hope that our presence and companionship can bring joy and laughter to the elderly at the Home.
To ensure a more organized volunteer group, we placed great emphasis on teamwork and leadership. This can be seen from the well-structured committee where volunteers are given leadership opportunities. To encourage sharing and bonding, an annual Volunteers Camp involving past and present volunteers is organised to give the volunteers a time of fun and games.
With passion, we promote Volunteerism by conducting monthly orientation for new volunteers to welcome and introduce them to volunteering through an informal setting. A Recruitment Guide is also compiled to enable any volunteer to 'self-train'. Through the years, we hoped to reach out to the elderly and beyond with our well structured programmes and activities, as well as to truly embodies the spirit of volunteerism.
